Mia Howard is a Managing Partner leading the Innovative Schools investment team. She and her team support educators with bold visions for new schools that embrace equity, innovation, and an expanded definition of student success.
Prior to joining NewSchools, Mia was the Founding Partner of Schools and Talent at The Opportunity Trust in St. Louis, leading the organization’s strategies to recruit and retain strong educators, expand successful schools, develop new schools, and transform existing ones. Before that, Mia founded and served as CEO of Intrepid College Prep Schools, an award-winning network of public charter schools in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mia holds a Juris Doctor with a concentration in Business Economics and Public Policy from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Vanderbilt University, where she was a Posse Scholar and member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Mia is an advocate for mental health and economic justice and is actively involved as a WEPOWER Tomorrow Builders Fellow, a member of the MIT Blueprint Labs’ Charter School Research Advisory Council, and serves on the boards of NAMI St. Louis and City Garden Montessori School.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, and a proud alum of New York City public schools, Mia now lives in St. Louis. She enjoys playing with her dog, Fizzy, spending time with friends and family, discussing music and pop culture, and exploring new restaurants.
