Matt Kastellec is Manager of Systems and Knowledge Management at NewSchools. In his role, he ensures the team has access to the right information, systems, and data to effectively execute processes in alignment with the organization’s mission. His work is grounded in human-centered change management and an orientation toward bridging the gap between technical and programmatic stakeholders. Matt brings a decade of experience from the education nonprofit sector, notably from his time at the Achievement Network (ANet), where his responsibilities ranged from project management and operations strategy to data infrastructure and analytics.
A proud alumnus of the New York City public school system, Matt holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan (go blue!) and an M.P.A. from the Wagner School for Public Service at New York University. He was also a member of Cohort 11 of the Strategic Data Project at the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University.
A resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, Matt spends time outside of NewSchools building supportive spaces and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. He serves as the Board Chair for Project Rainbow Utah and Co-Organizer for the Salt Lake Area Queer Climbers (SLAQC). His engagement with this community reflects his deep commitment to equity and justice in the K-12 education space and beyond.
In his leisure time, Matt enjoys exploring Utah’s natural beauty with his partner and their two rescue dogs, Shyla and Shadow, whether it’s taking strolls around their neighborhood or embarking on outdoor adventures.
