As a Senior Partner at NewSchools, Pete Fishman leads the Teaching Reimagined investment area. He supports innovators who are evolving how educators work and opening systems to involve caregivers and community experts in support of students.
Before joining NewSchools, Pete served as Executive Vice President at Deans for Impact, a national non-profit organization that he helped to launch in 2015 and grew to serve nearly 200 educator-preparation programs in 45 states. In that capacity, he led organizational learning and strategy and oversaw policy, communications, operations, finance, fundraising, and new initiatives.
Throughout his career, Pete has worked to reimagine pathways into teaching. While at NewSchools earlier in his career, he managed Learning to Teach, a national initiative originally developed with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, which brought together diverse stakeholders across the country to strengthen and expand pathways into teaching. He has also consulted to national foundations, K-12 school systems, and support organizations.
Pete began his career as a high school history and civics teacher at the Academy of the Pacific Rim in Boston and has held roles at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and DSST Public Schools in Colorado. He holds a doctorate in Education Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a BA from Yale University.
Pete lives north of Boston with his wife, who is an elementary literacy specialist, and their two children.
