Cynthia Tucker Haynes, a Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist and a popular radio and television commentator led a lively discussion along with two panelists:
- Roland Martin is the host and managing editor of TV One’s News One Now
- Lisa Snell, Director of Education of the Reason Foundation
The session discussed how education issues have come up (or not come up) more broadly in the 2016 presidential election and as a priority among voters.
Education has not been a top priority for the presidential candidates, largely because it is not a priority among voters. Education reformers need to “turn up the heat” to rally and demand that the candidates make education a top priority. Leaders need to make sure that all families understand they have a stake in the conversation, across race and class lines.
